#NatureForAll is a global movement to inspire love of nature. It is founded on the knowledge that the more people experience nature, the more they appreciate, love, and care for it. Experiences and connections with nature are an important foundation for lifelong support and action for parks and protected areas. While many people already respect, appreciate, and enjoy the diverse benefits of nature, studies have shown that many others, whether through circumstance, lifestyle, or opportunity, face barriers to positively experiencing and connecting with the natural world. #NatureForAll aims to reverse this trend. #NatureForAll brings together a diverse coalition of partners to collaborate, scale up actions, and broaden their reach to engage people from all walks of life to experience, connect with, and take action for nature.
The 2014 IUCN World Parks Congress (WPC) was an important catalyst for this movement. The Congress stream “Inspiring a New Generation” connected a range of individuals and interest groups to consider how best to create a future in which people across sectors and generations are passionate about and take action for nature. Following the 2014 WPC, as called for in the Promise of Sydney Recommendations for Inspiring a New Generation, the IUCN WCPA and Commission on Education and Communication (CEC) were jointly tasked with building on WPC outcomes to strategically define and deliver on a movement to inspire a new generation to connect with nature. Thus, #NatureForAll was formally launched at the 2016 IUCN World Conservation Congress. It is being led by a joint Task Force of the IUCN WCPA and CEC.
#NatureForAll has the following three objectives:
1. | Create and engage a global coalition of partner organizations who will collectively scale up the reach and impact of efforts to connect people with nature and inspire support and action for conservation |
#NatureForAll is bringing together a diversity of players to scale up the reach and impact of their collective work and take it to a new level of influence. It was created to help grow the important work each of its partners undertakes to connect people with nature exponentially.
2. | Raise awareness and motivate people from all walks of life to embrace nature and its values. |
The movement aims to foster enabling environments to reduce barriers and connect people with nature in different ecosystems, regions, contexts and realities. Through partnership, we share knowledge, strategies, approaches, and actions - amplifying our collective reach and impact to engage people from all walks of life to fall in love with and act for nature.
3. | Facilitate opportunities for all to experience and connect with nature. |
#NatureForAll partners are sharing their knowledge and approaches for connecting people from all walks of life with nature and are learning from each other about how to do even better. #NatureForAll partners are implementing a number of approaches for connecting people with nature, as summarized in the #NatureForAll Playbook, with the intention to inspire other organisations and individuals to adopt them and, in doing so, scale up action. |
