West and Central Africa

In West and Central Africa, BRIDGE is working in two transboundary basins: the Mano River (Liberia – Sierra Leone) and the Lake Chad (Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Cameroon).

Mano River (Liberia – Sierra Leone)

A priority of BRIDGE work in the Mano River basin is the promotion of, and support to the establishment of legal and institutional frameworks for water governance reform. The project will initially focus on the facilitation of a shared vision for the Mano, supported by an action plan for sustainable development, as a starting point for potential development of a water charter for the Mano river basin.

Lake Chad (Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Cameroon)

BRIDGE will support existing initiatives and strengthen institutional arrangements already in place. BRIDGE will support the Lake Chad Basin Commission to facilitate the implementation of IWRM in the basin and the production and distribution of thematic basin maps. During its initial phase, the project will also focus on supporting countries with the ratification process of the Lake Chad Basin Water Charter.
