The Blue Solutions project provides a global platform to collate, share and generate knowledge and capacity for sustainable management and equitable governance of our blue planet. It thus contributes to supporting decision makers and practitioners in applying “solutions” and achieving the Marine and Coastal Aichi Targets of the Convention on Biological Diversity.
Blue Solutions synthesizes lessons learnt and best practice in marine and coastal management – innovative concepts and practical approaches that inspire action towards healthy ecosystems that sustain biodiversity and human well-being. Those are what we call 'Blue Solutions'.
IUCN, through its Global Protected Areas Programme, focuses on the topic of Coastal and Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). We document, promote and share experiences from MPAs around the world, particularly highlighting different governance models and community based approaches, as well as the role of MPAs in enhancing climate change resilience and disaster risk reduction. Through this, Blue Solutions aims to enhance the evidence base of MPAs addressing both human needs and conserving nature, and facilitating wider application of successful models.
The thematic portal on “marine and coastal solutions” of the PANORAMA platform is hosted by Blue Solutions, and houses all case studies that have been collated through the project thus far. The “Solutioning approach” and case study format, now used by a growing number of partners joining PANORAMA, has been pioneered through Blue Solutions, with IUCN playing a leading role.

How you can contribute:
Get in touch with Marie Fischborn or submit an MPA 'solution' case study directly on the marine and coastal portal of the PANORAMA platform.
Help us promote the portal widely, making it well-known as a rich resource of innovative approaches and best practices to marine and coastal conservation and natural resource management.
