IUCN is participating in the 20th Conference of the Parties (COP20) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Lima, Peru from 1 to 12 December 2014.
A crucial milestone
COP20 is a crucial milestone on the road to COP21 in Paris in 2015 when ongoing negotiations on a new global climate agreement are due to conclude. Determining the shape and content of the 2015 agreement, which will come into effect in 2020, will form a central part of the negotiations at Lima.
Governments will also deliberate on how to raise pre-2020 ambition on climate action and on the information that they will provide as they put forward their Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) for the post-2020 period, as was agreed in Warsaw last year.
