Abstract:
The situation in the Rio Doce Basin after the Fundão dam failure in 2015 is correlated to multiple interacting causes, including the results of economic activities, political decisions taken in the past and aligned with a social and cultural context, which altogether cause impacts on ecosystems and human health. This Issue Paper adopts an integrative and systemic health approach and proposes recommendations that link human and ecosystem health while considering the importance of community participation.
