The Freshwater Health Index: Participate in a Mini Assessment

The Freshwater Health Index is a new tool developed by Conservation International and partners to help decision makers measure basin health in terms of ecosystem vitality, ecosystem services, and governance. The Index includes 11 major indicators assessed at the basin and sub-basin scale, and stakeholder engagement is a crucial part of the assessment process.

The Africa EU Water Partnership Project: Unlocking investments through development

Water supply and sanitation are requirements for human development, but it is estimated that there is an annual funding gap of over 11 billion USD for water infrastructure in Africa. This event will include lightening talks from representatives of development banks (AfDB), project preparation facilities (CRIDF), and CSOs engaged with AEWPP in a joint effort to improve the financial viability and development impacts of water infrastructure across Africa.

African smallholder irrigation: double yields with half the water!

Sustainable and inclusive intensification of smallholder irrigation in Africa is key to meeting the global challenges of securing food for a growing population and reducing poverty with limited water resources. This session considers new ways of working with irrigation communities in Africa to intensify sustainable agricultural production profitably by using water more efficiently, reducing waste of land and nutrients and facilitating socially-inclusive investment.

This seminar adresses governance of water and waste with a particular emphasis on wastewater management and reuse. The seminar will concentrate on various areas of integrating water resources managemen; reducing and reusing waste; managing water and waste in the urban context and promoting integrity and anti-corruption in the water and waste sectors.
Reducing waste in efficient irrigation: What pathways and who gains?

A careful examination of the fate of ‘wasted water’ in irrigation is urgently required. This session will first discuss how science and policy should help navigate conflicting beliefs (that irrigation either wastes vast volumes of water or wastes no water at all because wasted water is recycled), and then, will offer guidelines for evaluating the socio-technological pathways and potential water benefits of improving resource efficiency.
Sustainable Water Partnership: Delivering Stability and Benefits through Water Security

Water security is essential to humankind as it supports public health, economic growth, environmental sustainability and political stability. This session will explore how to raise awareness of all decision makers on water security risk and how to engage local and regional leaders in water management planning efforts so that these become collaborative development processes that engage more than engineers and develop negotiated solutions beyond infrastructure development.
