At the Katowice Climate Change Conference, Parties are expected to deliberate on a number of issues to guide the future of climate governance under the Paris Agreement.
The most important of these issues is finalising the Paris Agreement Work Programme. This so-called ‘rulebook’ will provide the guidance necessary to operationalise and implement the Paris Agreement from 2020.
The Talanoa Dialogue will enter its political phase at COP24. It will take stock of the collective efforts of Parties in relation to progress on the long-term goals of the Paris Agreement and inform the preparation of future nationally-determined contributions (NDCs).

IUCN’s key messages
At UNFCCC COP24, IUCN will highlight the critical role of nature and healthy ecosystems in providing effective and practical solutions for tackling climate change. It will also emphasise the need for the guidance being currently developed under the Paris Agreement Work Programme to further encourage and facilitate these efforts. Events
In addition to following the official negotiations, IUCN is strongly engaged in the Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action (MPGCA) to support the acceleration of global climate ambition and action on the ground. It will actively contribute to the thematic action tracks on forests and land-use, water, resilience, and ocean and coastal zones.
IUCN will also engage in a number of other side events and activities on climate change in the COP24 venue and at other venues in Katowice, Poland.
