Summary: Agriculture, including rangelands, covers >30% of land, with trees being an integrated part of most smallholdings. Using multiple-stakeholder, risk-informed, evidence-based decision-making approaches, the project increases knowledge for governments and others of the importance of TonF for biodiversity and human wellbeing. Through the SL network, the project will provide tools/training to assess country-specific biodiversity functions associated with TonF. Integrating indigenous and local knowledge, the project will provide farmers, extension agents and governments with information on tree-based interventions that contribute to biodiversity and provide co-benefits such as mitigation/adaptation, sustainability, improved livelihoods, etc. The project will support the integration of sustainable management and agricultural biodiversity into policy by facilitating the implementation of policy instruments and financial mechanisms such as those described in the BIOFIN workbook, and engaging financial actors via innovation platforms.
