Background
Morocco is an iconic, globally recognized tourist destination and the most visited country in Africa. Tourism one of the most important economic sectors in Morocco, and mass tourism in particular has grown significantly over the last two decades, bringing with it economic opportunities, but also some challenges with regards to protection of natural resources and cultural heritage, as well as concerns for the sector´s long-term potential to maintain a high quality experience for visitors.
The Intrepid Foundation and the MEET Network have joined forces to establish ecotourism products in two Morrocan protected areas, including Ifrane & Talassemtane National Park. By collaborating MEET Network and the Intrepid Foundation have the capacity and expertise to establish ecotourism products in and around Moroccan protected areas that are attractive from both a sustainability and commercial perspective.
Role of the MEET Network
The MEET Network will support the development and promotion of two ecotourism products, the first in Ifrane and the second in Talassemtane National Parkeach.
Partnership
This project is jointly led by the Intrepid Foundation and the MEET Network with coordination support from IUCN Mediterranean and Department of Water and Forest of Morocco Government. Additionally, the project will receive support from AMEPN and Nature Solutions Morocco who are 2 local Moroccan NGOs.
