Most of Tanzania’s threats to biodiversity and the environment are an outcome of land use practices.

Tanzania is positively contributing to the implementation of the CBD, and the Aichi targets 7 and 11 in particular.

Mainstream land use planning laws in Tanzania have general provisions on integrating climate change and biodiversity issues into spatial planning frameworks, while sectoral policies and laws have more elaborate provisions.
Strategic plans, action plans, guidelines and programmes show the extent to which Tanzania is striving to attain Aichi targets 7 and 1.

Tanzania National Technical Committee on Land Use Planning re-launched and capacitated
The National Technical Committee on Land Use Planning (NTCLUP) was re-launched during a 2.5 day capacity building workshop held on 5th to 7th September, 2018, at Edema Conference, in Morogoro, Tanzania. The Technical Committee is composed of 15 members representing different sectors and drawn from Ministries, Departments and Agencies, and NGOs. It is legally established under the Land Use Planning Act (2007) and is tasked to provide technical advice to the National Land Use Planning Commission (NLUPC) on matters related to land use planning.

Supporting and strengthening ICCAs in Tanzania: Third national governance workshop held in Arusha
As part of the ongoing project entitled Global Support Initiative for Indigenous Peoples and Community Conserved Areas (GSI-ICCA) in collaboration with the Integrated Planning for Biodiversity and Climate Resilience project, a three day workshop took place in Arusha, Tanzania, from the 26th until the 28th of April 2018. E-learning course on integrated land use planning launched in Tanzania
Under the leadership of the Environmental Law Centre, IUCN and UNITAR have jointly developed a new e-learning course on ‘Integrated planning for climate change and biodiversity’.
