A Global Standard for the Identification of Key Biodiversity Areas (version 1.0)
The Global Standard for the Identification of Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) sets out globally agreed criteria for the identification of KBAs worldwide. The KBA Standard establishes a consultative, science-based process for KBA identification, founded on the consistent application of global criteria with quantitative thresholds that have been developed through an extensive consultation exercise spanning several years (also available in French and Spanish).
IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria (version 3.1)
The IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria are intended to be an easily and widely understood system for classifying species at high risk of global extinction. The general aim of the system is to provide an explicit, objective framework for the classification of the broadest range of species according to their extinction risk (also available in French, Spanish and additional translations).
Guidelines for Application of IUCN Red List Criteria at Regional and National Levels (version 4.0)
The IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria were developed for classifying species at high risk of global extinction, i.e. for assessment at the global level. At regional, national and local levels there are essentially two options: (1) to publish an unaltered subset of the global IUCN Red List encompassing those species that reproduce in the region or at any stage regularly visit the region or (2) to assess species’ extinction risk and publish Red Lists within the specific region. This document guides users of Red Lists to achieve the second option (also available in French, Spanish and additional translations).
