Photo: IUCN Event series throughout 2021	Nature-based Solutions: A path to a green and resilient recovery The Geneva Environment Network and IUCN will host a series of webinars designed to facilitate engagement during a critical year for nature and society. Stakeholders from Geneva and beyond will discuss how Nature-based Solutions (NbS) can contribute towards a green recovery -- one that is resilient and sustainable for our collective human rights and future generations. The Geneva Nature-based Solutions Dialogues will bring together multiple actors to share perspectives and establish a common understanding around key societal challenges. Each interdisciplinary webinar will explore how NbS can help bring integrity back to damaged ecosystems, stimulate economic recovery and tackle social inequalities, while addressing biodiversity loss and climate change. Photo: IUCN	The European Green Deal and Nature-based Solutions (NbS), 14 December The EU German Presidency hosted this virtual event together with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The event’s objectives were to create continued momentum towards NbS for people, biodiversity and climate and to demonstrate the potential of NbS to address our global challenges. The event tackled both the internal and external dimensions of the Green Deal, focusing on action by the EU and its Member States, but also looking beyond, into the global agenda. The virtual dialogue featured high-level representatives from governments, international organizations, civil society and the finance sector and was organised into two sessions. The first was a high-level panel (14:00 - 15:00 CET) for discussing developments in NbS and their potential in relation to the EU Green Deal and the global context. The second session (15:00 - 17:00 CET) featured two technical panels with a focus on implementation challenges and opportunities that arise in these domestic and external dimensions. Photo: IUCN	The IUCN Global Standard for Nature-based Solutions Asia launch, 26 November Building on the global momentum, the IUCN Asia Regional launch will explain NbS in the regional context, providing a call for action to apply the Global Standard throughout the continent. On 26 November, IUCN will welcome leaders and champions of NbS across the region to establish a joint vision and commitments for turning NbS into action. Photo: OECD	OECD Green Growth and Sustainable Development Forum, 24-26 November IUCN's Global Director for NbS, Stewart Magginis joined a panel on the 26th titled, Addressing climate and biodiversity challenges: Nature-based Solutions for risk management. This session explored a range of issues from the role of national governments in facilitating the uptake of NbS as part of their Covid-19 recovery plans to how NbS can help them meet their climate mitigation and adaption goals.
Photo: IUCN	Cultivating the common ground: Mutual benefits for conservation and agriculture, 19 November Following the release of the IUCN Common Ground report, IUCN held a high-level dialogue with leaders representing farmers, youth, government and the private sector to explore the common ground between agriculture and conservation. Conserving land health and safeguarding soil biodiversity are shared concerns, and taking action now is essential for our future food security, human health and sustainable development. Keynote speakers included the Rt Hon Lord Zac Goldsmith (Minister of State in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Department for International Development and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, United Kingdom), Ma. Estrella Penunia Banzuela (SG, Asia Farmers Organisation), Dr. Pablo Titonell (National Council for Science and Technology, Argentina) and Mr Stewart Maginnis (IUCN Global Director, NbS Group) Watch the recording of the event on YouTube here. 	Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) in Supply Chains: Shared Learning Journey Kick-off Webinar, 16 November IUCN and the Global Agribusiness Alliance (GAA) co-delivered a shared learning journey inspired by IUCN’s Restoration in supply chains from zero net deforestation to net positive action (RESUPPLY) project for peer agribusinesses. The journey promoted the uptake and impact of FLR by providing a safe space for peer-learning, knowledge-sharing, and joint problem solving on both process and technical implementation. Representatives from three pilot projects carried out by Olam, ECOM, and Kilombero Sugarcane Company guided the audience through an investigation of restoration in supply chains along with FLR experts. The shared learning journey will address engagement at different steps along the supply chain, governance issues and intervention types. For more information, visit the IUCN ReSupply project website
Photo: © IUCN	Launch of the IUCN Global Standard for Nature-based Solutions, 23 July IUCN unveiled a Global Standard providing the first-ever set of benchmarks for nature-based solutions to global challenges. The new IUCN Global Standard will help governments, business and civil society ensure the effectiveness of nature-based solutions and maximise their potential to help address climate change, biodiversity loss and other societal challenges on a global scale. Photo: © IUCN	Nature-based Solutions: Backing biodiversity to safeguard society, 22 May For International Biodiversity Day, IUCN provided a global overview of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and an update on the IUCN Global Standard for NbS, bringing together partners across sectors in a zoom session that will be live streamed worldwide.
