Nature-based Solutions provide an integrated approach to biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation & adaptation, while simultaneously providing a range of co-benefits for sustainable economic development, health and societal well-being. Yet currently Nature-based Solutions are not being implemented to their full potential, despite the role they could play in helping achieve biodiversity goals as well as climate resilience and carbon neutrality.
IUCN works towards increased awareness, understanding and implementation of Nature-based Solutions to address the twin crises of climate change and biodiversity loss and ensure that they are integrated in the recovery plans.
This Nature O’Clock webinar: ‘Upscaling Nature-based Solutions for achieving Europe’s climate and biodiversity objectives’ highlighted the IUCN Global Nature-based Solutions Standard and European policy ambitions, funding instruments, strategies and best practices that demonstrate how investing in nature can have positive impact across all sectors of society and will contribute to preserving and restoring natural capital and climate resilience.
Speakers:
- Chantal van Ham, IUCN European Regional Office
- Ms. Višnar Malinovská, DG Clima, European Commission
- Dr. Kerstin Böck, Project manager lifelineMDD, WWF Austria
As Europe is rising to meet the biodiversity and climate challenges and the importance of climate change adaptation and ecosystem restoration are increasingly recognised globally, Nature-based Solutions are becoming more and more prominent in strategy, policy and practice.
