IUCN has issued an urgent call to the world’s governments, international agencies and the private sector to massively scale up species conservation action, appealing to halt species decline and prevent human-driven extinctions by 2030.

In order to support the SSC network, the SSC Chair’s Office developed models that can provide opportunities for a wide range of SSC groups at the same time. The Recovery of Species from the Brink of Extinction request for proposals and the SSC Internal Grant are two of them.

The SSC members are deployed in more than 160 Specialist Groups, Red List Authorities, Task Forces and Conservation Committees. Some groups address conservation issues related to particular groups of plants, fungi or animals while others focus on broader issues such as reintroduction of species into former habitats, climate change, wildlife health and sustainable use and trade.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the French government have agreed to hold the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2020 from 3 to 11 September 2021 in Marseille. 

SRR is a groundbreaking approach to conservation that brings together the Government of Indonesia, leading international conservation organizations, local experts and conservation practitioners, and supporters from around the world to save a species from extinction.
