Evidence-based targeting of dryland restoration and sustainable management

Under this result area, the Global Drylands iInitiative seeks to ensure that appropriate assessments are used to support targeting and monitoring of interventions and policies for dryland ecosystems.

The key targets (by 2020) under this include:

  • Improved land degradation assessments and monitoring systems in 10 countries
  • Large scale dryland degradation assessment is carried out in at least 1 region
  • Improved dryland assessment methodologies influence the application of Red List of Ecosystems (RLE),Restoration Opportunities Assessment Methodology (ROAM) and other IUCN assessment methodologies
  • Improved dryland assessment methodologies influence monitoring and implementation of Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN)
  • Knowledge on the multiple benefits of dryland restoration and sustainable management, including impacts on food and water security, biodiversity and climate change, is generated and shared to mobilise resources and develop partnerships
